Many people are confused about the rules and regulations of travelling on board aircraft with a mobility scooter, below are general guidelines set out by a number of UK airlines.
Before booking a flight you should make sure you are aware of these guidelines.

Airline Policies


Most airlines will allow you to transport your mobility scooter abroad, however there are strict guidelines and regulations which should be checked with individual airlines before booking.

In general airlines will only allow travel / portable/ folding mobility scooters.

General Guidelines.

All airlines policies will differ between certain regulations however there are a basic set of guidelines that all airlines will require passengers to comply by:

What Type of Battery Are Allowed?

BATTERIES – DRY/GELL CELL:

All batteries are classed as 'Dangerous Goods' and may only be carried if they are attached to a wheelchair / Mobility Scooter or inside an electrical item.
(Batteries other than those attached to a wheelchair / mobility scooter or inside an electrical item must be declared a dangerous good.)

BATTERIES – WET CELL:

Cannot be carried unless the battery is attached to a wheelchair / mobility scooter.
Mobility Scooters and wheelchairs can be carried on aircraft as luggage but they must be foldable, which means that only travel mobility scooters can be transported.
