Modern mobility scooters have become very reliable in recent years but it is still advised that you have your scooter serviced annually, as this will help to keep it in the best possible condition.
What Are You Looking For?
Batteries
The first time you charge the scooters Batteries make sure it is a full charge as this sets the Batteries “memory” and will make charges after this last as long as possible.
You should ideally charge your Batteries every time you return from a journey or every night as this will make sure the battery is fresh and ready to go.
This will reduce the chances of you running out of power and being stranded whilst also helping with the long term life of your Batteries.
Weather
Try to keep your mobility scooter clean and tidy, and if possible avoid getting it wet as this could affect the electronic components inside, however there will be times when you get caught out in a sudden down pour so it is advisable to purchase a scooter cape, or coat as this will not only protect you but also your scooter.
Overloading
Your scooter has a maximum carrying weight and so should not be overloaded with shopping as this could cause your scooter to become unstable and reduce performance.
Cleaning
By keeping your mobility scooter clean you will effectively prevent premature wear of moving parts by stopping dirt and grime building up on your mobility scooters moving parts.
If you are able you should ideally check the underneath of your scooter every couple of weeks, this will stop premature rusting of metal parts and unusual wearing of the scooter.
Make sure the battery terminals are clean and not obstructed. To increase the connectivity of your scooters battery terminals during colder months try rubbing a small amount of grease or Vaseline onto the terminals.
